T. Joan Spoonhour, 90, of Mont Alto, PA, passed away Monday, August 7, 2017 at her home. Born May 2, 1927 in Fulton County, she was a daughter of the late A. Russell and I. Janet Barkman Brown. Mrs. Spoonhour was a 1946 graduate of the former Quincy High School and was employed for several years as a nurse’s aide at South Mountain Restoration Center. She was employed as a seamstress at the former J. Schoeneman Company in Chambersburg from 1968 until her retirement in 1991. She attended Greenwood Assembly of God. Her hobbies included sewing, Word Find puzzles, cooking, baking, tending to her flowers, and spending time with her family. Her husband, Charles W. Spoonhour, whom she married September 14, 1946, preceded her in death on June 9, 1989.
She is survived by two daughters, Ellen M. Bakner and husband Jerry of Mont Alto and Doreen K. Hummer and husband Glen of Chambersburg; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her sister, Reba F. Miller of Mont Alto. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, John E. Spoonhour; her grandson, Richard L. Bakner; and her granddaughter, Kelly L. Spoonhour.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, August 10, 2017 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Pastor Carroll Cool will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from Noon-1:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
