Terry Leroy Gontz, 69, of Chambersburg, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2017 in his home, following his battle with cancer. Born on August 10, 1948 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Delbert Harper Gontz and Helen L. Starliper Gontz.

A 1966 graduate of CASHS, Terry served his country with the Air National Guard and the US. Air Force Reserves. He was a member of King Street United Brethren Church and the Letterkenny Rod and Gun Club, where he served as Treasurer for 23 years.

Everyone who knew Terry knew that the game of golf was his lifelong pursuit. He started caddying at age 8 at the Chambersburg Country Club, playing at age 12, and earned his PGA card in 1969 in Hartford, CT. His 40-year tenure as a golf pro included Assistant Golf Pro at Beaver Creek Country Club and Fountain Head Country Club, both in Hagerstown, MD, Golf Director at Penn National Golf Club, Business manager for Rocky Spring Golf Course, and Head PGA Golf Professional at Majestic Ridge Golf Course, all in Chambersburg. Following retirement from golf, he worked as a groundskeeper at Menno Haven. Some of his other interests included hunting, camping, and rooting for the New York Yankees and Washington Redskins, coaching baseball and Franklin County Junior Golf, but his real passion was introducing children and beginners to the game of golf.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Darlene C. Divelbiss Gontz, whom he married on June 20, 1969; four sons, Terry L. (Lori) of Chambersburg, Travis (Emily), of Fayetteville, Trevor (Judy) of Landisville, PA, and Torrey (Lindsay) of Shippensburg; 11 grandchildren, Tessa, Tyler, Nicholas, Timothy, Benjamin, Carmine, Mollie, Callie, Misty, Steven, and William; and one great grandson, Corey.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 18, 2017, at 6:30 PM at King Street United Brethren Church 162 East King Street Chambersburg, with Rev. Ron Cook and Pastor Jody Bowser officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
