Terry A. McKee, 72, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away peacefullyWednesday, February 10, 2016 at his home. Born July 24, 1943 in Needmore, PA, he was a son of the late Alma Marie McKee Hann. He attended Southern Fulton High School. In his early years, he worked as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator for H.B. Mellott Enterprises in Warfordsburg, PA and was a bookkeeper at a gas company in Hancock, MD. Terry moved to Chambersburg in 1967 and was employed at the former American Can Company / James River Corporation for twenty years. He opened a taxidermy showroom and school that was one of the fourteen businesses that burned in the fire on Wolf Avenue. He attended real estate classes thru Penn State University obtaining his real estate license and broker’s license. Active in real estate for more than thirty years, he began his career in real estate working at Garman Realty, then Remax Realty, and later managing Jack Gaughen Real Estate which merged with Coldwell Banker in 2015. Terry also enjoyed working part-time as a security guard at the Franklin County Courthouse.
He was a member of New Guilford Brethren In Christ Church where he was active with the Boys Brigade for many years and was a former Trustee, Usher, and member of the church board. He earned many ribbons and awards for his taxidermy work as well as numerous awards and designations in real estate. He was a member of the board of directors of the former American Community Federal Credit Union and was instrumental and for a short period of time served as credit union manager thru the merger with Corning Credit Union. He also ran for District Justice in 2003. He liked spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and twin great-granddaughters and loved family vacations to various beaches and many road trips visiting many states with his wife Jean. He collected vintage dishes, his favorite being green jadite. He enjoyed spending time at the family cabin, hunting, fishing, landscaping and gardening, especially his peppers and 10ft. tall tomatoes, feeding the birds, and fighting the squirrels.
Terry is survived his wife, Gloria “Jean” Keefer McKee whom he married October 28, 1961; his son, Gregory McKee and wife Candie of Chambersburg; his daughter, Cheryl Wise and husband Ronald of Chambersburg; three grandchildren, Tyler McKee, Benjamin Wise, and Jennifer High and husband Travis; and twin great-granddaughters, Madeleine and Peyton High. He is also survived by three sisters, Joyce Covalt and husband Leon of Needmore, Susan Schuster and husband Steve of Pikesville, MD, and Kathy Brookens and husband Michael of Chambersburg; and two brothers, Eugene Hann and wife Linda of Mercersburg and Shawn Hann of Chambersburg.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, February 15, 2016 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Terry Hoke officiating. Private interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday and from 9:00-10:00 AM Monday at the funeral home.
