Thelma “Jean” Meminger, 75, of Chambersburg, passed away on Sunday April 23, 2017 at her home. Born December 3, 1941 in Windber, PA, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Ruth Garland Haman.
Jean was employed as the head cook at Letterkenny Army Depot for 14 years. During her time there she attended a Culinary Arts school in Baltimore. She later became an antiques dealer. She had a space at the Fayetteville Antique Mall where she also worked at the cash register. Jean attended St. Paul United Methodist Church and was a life member of the VFW Post 1599 and Marine Corps League in Chambersburg. She also volunteered her time at the VA Hospital in Martinsburg, WV. Jean enjoyed latch hook, antiquing, riding motorcycle with her husband and cooking.
She is survived by her husband Harry Theodore “Ted” Meminger whom she married on August 14, 1981; three children, Jeanne Mills (Gary) of Chambersburg, Ken Renfrew of Shippensburg, and Julia Renfrew Reese of Chambersburg; nine grandchildren, Mark Mills USN (Jessica) of Suffolk, VA, Lynne Mills of Waynesboro, Michael Mills USN (Catherine) of Newport News, VA, Ashley Olson (Jared) of Chambersburg, Heather Renfrew of Chambersburg, Keegan McDannell of Chambersburg, Mikayla Locke (Austin) of Shippensburg, Bailey Renfrew of Shippensburg, and Derek Reese USN (Danielle) of Aiea, HI; five great grandchildren, Dash, Dylan, Madison, Dawson and Wyatt; and one brother, William Haman (Carol) of Long Island, NY. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her son, Harold Ronald Renfrew; and three siblings, Richard Haman, Glenn Haman, and Mary Bard.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 750 Norland Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Rev. Rick Noll will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church at the above address.
