Thelma Powell, age 92, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born February 1, 1925, in Chambersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Clark and Margaret Heckman McClure.
Mrs. Powell was a homemaker most of her adult life, which allowed her to care for her family. She also in later years cared for her grandchildren as well as the other neighborhood children. For a few years, she was employed by Knouse Foods and the Chambersburg Hospital. Mrs. Powell enjoyed planting flowers, watching game shows, going to the Bon-Ton, and spending time with children.
Surviving are six children, Judy Neff (husband Kenneth) of Fayetteville, PA; Bonnie Bingaman (husband Denny) of GA; Kathy Rockwell (husband Rick) of Hagerstown, MD; Reid “Bud” Powell, Jr. (wife Diana) of Shippensburg, PA; Michael Powell (wife Cathy) of South Mountain, PA; and Lori Powell of Chambersburg, PA, 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Reid Powell, Sr., a son, Kelly Powell, a grandson, Jeff Cowan, 3 sisters, and 1 brother.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 2 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Pastor Staci Geeseman will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
