Thomas J. Delaney, 78, of Chambersburg, PA, died Wednesday morning, April 10, 2013 at Chambersburg Hospital. Born June 7, 1934 in Bronx, NY, he was a son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Delaney. Mr. Delaney retired from the US Air Force after 20 years of service. Following his discharge from the military he was employed as a truck driver with Carolina Trucking. He also worked as a security guard at the Daytona 500 Speedway and as a Disc Jockey with WISH 100 FM in Mechanicsburg. He attended Grace Brethren Church in Chambersburg and was a member of Teamsters Union 776. He collected model trains and early in his life enjoyed boating.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth H. Styers Delaney, whom he married April 10, 1971; five children, Thomas J. Delaney, Jr. and wife Sharon of Dazel, SC, Joan B. Cook of Glenwood, MD, Edward I. Leishear and wife Terri of Kent Island, MD, Cynthia H.E. Clark of High Point, NC, and Joanne H. Painter of Chambersburg, PA; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gloria. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John M. Leishear and an infant son.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, April 15, 2013 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. John Bayer officiating. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
