Thomas Michael “Tom” Henn, 64, of Chambersburg, passed away due to complications of heart disease on Friday, April 28, 2017 in Georgetown (SC) Memorial Hospital. Born on September 9, 1952 in New Brighton, PA, he was a son of the late John Henn and Helen Podnar Henn.
A U.S Army veteran, Tom served two tours in Vietnam. Upon returning to the States, he earned his B.S. degree in Education from Shippensburg University, and later earned his Master’s equivalency in Education. An outstanding offensive guard on the Shippensburg University Football team, he was inducted into the SU Sports Hall of Fame in 1992. He taught science at CASHS and the Career Tech, retiring in 2012. He also coached football at CASHS for 24 years.
Tom’s memberships included the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46, Hume McNeil Byers AmVets Post 224, Marine Corps League, Loyal Order of the Moose Post 842, the 40 et 8 Club, the Chambersburg Club, and the Knights of Columbus Post 1426, where he was a 3rd Degree Knight.
He is survived by his loving wife, Christine Hewitson Henn, whom he married in 1990; his faithful dog, Rosie; sister Donna Engle, brothers, John Henn and Rev. Fr. William Henn; sister – in – law, Lois McErlean and brothers – in – law, Robert McErlean and Ray Hewitson; nieces and nephews, Lori Marazzi, Lisa Engle, Jon Engle, Patrick McErlean, Karen McErlean, Sean McErlean, Kevin McErlean, Christopher Hewitson, Randi Hewitson, Clay Hewitson, and Jessica Hewitson. Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers-in-law Carl Engle and Bobby Hewitson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 5, in Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Avenue Chambersburg, with Tom’s brother, the Rev. Fr. William Henn officiating. Interment will follow in Corpus Christi Cemetery, where members of VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard will conduct military graveside honors. Memorial visitations will be held from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Thursday, May 4, in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either CVAS 5051 Letterkenny Road West Chambersburg, PA 17201, or to the CASD Foundation General Fund, 435 Stanley Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
