Thomas Lautenslager

Thomas W. Lautenslager, 58, of Chambersburg, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2011 in his home, after a courageous battle with cancer while surrounded by his family. Born on November 28, 1952 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late M. Lucille Leidig Lautenslager and George T. Lautenslager.

A 1970 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School, Tom served his country with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked for the last 40 years as a carpenter and master craftsman with his brother’s business at T.A. Lautenslager in Chambersburg. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, the Marine Corps League, and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 842, all in Chambersburg. Tom loved the outdoors, and he enjoyed church league bowling at Lincoln Lanes for 30 years. Tom’s most cherished times were those spent with his family, especially his granddaughter, Lydia.

Tom is survived by his wife, Beatrice Fleming Lautenslager, whom he married on October 11, 2008; three children, Travis Neil (and fiancé, Bri Breon), Liz Lautenslager, and Ashley Neil; one granddaughter, Lydia Witter, all of Chambersburg; two brothers, Terry A. (and wife, Twila) Lautenslager and Mike G. (and wife, Deb) Lautenslager; two sisters, Lorna A. (and husband, Greg) Toms and Peg Lautenslager Gadberry (and companion, Benny Waddell). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins, one uncle Barry Lautenslager and wife Bobbie of Hagerstown, MD, and his mother-in-law, Peggy Fleming.

Services will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, September 22, 2011 in St. Paul United Methodist Church, 750 Norland Avenue, Chambersburg, with Rev. Rick Noll and Rev. Lester Stine officiating. Interment will follow in Lincoln Cemetery. There will be no viewing; however the family will welcome friends from 7-9 PM on Wednesday in the Thomas L Geisel Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd. Chambersburg. There will be no visitation prior to the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul U.M. Church at the above address; Friendship Engine and Hose Co. #1, 261 E. McKinley St, Salvation Army Corps, 159 LWW, all of Chambersburg, PA 17201.
