Thomas Trenton Mathews, Sr., 82 of Chambersburg, died on March 11, 2021 at Paramount Senior Living. Born January 4, 1939 in East Pike Twp., Washington County, PA, he was the son of the late Hughey James and Margaret Anna (McDonough) Mathews.
A 1957 graduate from California (PA) High School, Tom played baseball for California HS and Legion, Fayette County League, and Dayton, OH semi-pro league. He then attended IBM Data Processing Technical School in Pittsburgh, PA. He was first employed at Wright-Patterson AFB from 1960-1965. He then worked as a Computer Systems Analyst, supervisor with LSSA, and tenant of Letterkenny Army Depot, before retiring in 1993.
Tom loved turkey hunting, deer hunting and golfing. He enjoyed attending Greencastle HS wrestling matches that his son coached and stepson’s college football games. He also had great pleasure of passing down ‘Camp Nevermind’ to his family.
Surviving are his wife, Cyndy Mathews whom he married on February 12, 1993. They enjoyed traveling, Casinos, and spending winters in N. Myrtle Beach; son, Thomas ‘Trent’ Mathews Jr. and wife Ann (Kauffman Station, PA), Grandsons Nathaniel (Dori) Mathews (Greencastle, PA), and Zachary (Karlie) Mathews (Centerville, UT); Great Grandchildren Joseph, Theodore, Andrew, and Ellie Mathews; Step-Sons, Douglas Stockslager, Dustin (Hilary) Stockslager, and Toby (Amy) Stockslager and Step-Grandchildren Stone, Sadrina, Austin, Morgan, and Cooper Stockslager. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Hugh, Louis, Charles, and Edward,and Audrey.
