Thomas L. Mowers, age 83, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on September 5, 2014 at his home. Born September 4, 1931, he was a son of the late Stewart E. Mowers and Frances R. McNew Mowers.
Thomas worked at Letterkenny Army Depot as a painter until his retirement in 1986 after 34 years of service. After his retirement, Tom owned and operated Mowers Carpet and Cleaning Service from 1987 until 1997. He was a member of Fayetteville Pentecostal Church of God. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Viola G. Lininger Mowers, whom he married on June 16, 1956; his son, Randall Mowers and companion Shary Decker of Chambersburg; his grandson, Tom Lee Mowers and wife Karyl of Mont Alto, PA; three great-grandchildren, Medea, Luke and Louis Mowers; his brother, Rev. George Mouer, Sr.; two sisters, Betty Mickey and Peggy Peterson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Aside from his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Michael D. Mowers; and three sisters, Janet Baker, Violet Shockey and Bernetia Mowers.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Staci Geesaman and Rev. George Mouer will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
