Thomas J. Primo, Sr., age 82, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Thursday afternoon, February 19, 2015 at Chambersburg Hospital. Born August 12, 1932 in Union City, NJ, Tom was the son of the late Anthony and Fannie Pupo Primo.
A 1950 graduate of Union Hill High School, Tom then served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge from the Air Force, Tom worked as a lithographer and belonged to the ALA Union in New York City for 33 until his retirement in 1988. Tom enjoyed gardening, and growing bonsai trees and miniature fruit trees. He was an avid pigeon fancier and raised and raced homing pigeons. He belonged to the North Jersey Pigeon Club and the Cape Cod Pigeon Racing Club.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Claire A. Belsky Primo, whom he married on November 10, 1956; two children, Susan Primo Austin (husband Michael) of Granbury, TX, and Thomas J. Primo, Jr. (wife Deborah) of Branchville, NJ; and five grandchildren, Rebecca Ann Schumm of Washington, D.C., Zachary Tyler Schumm of Norfolk, VA, and Nicole Lynn Primo, Thomas J. Primo III, and Megan Rose Primo all of Branchville, NJ.
A memorial service to honor Tom’s life will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
