Thurman D. “Bud” Hassler, 84, of Chambersburg, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at his home. Born July 26, 1935 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Thurman F. and Leona Belle Snyder Hassler. His beloved wife, Joyce Silvernail Hassler, preceded him in death on January 23, 2018.
Thurman was a 1953 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. He was employed as a Maintenance Supervisor at Mack Truck until his retirement. He loved being in the mountains. An avid hunter and fisherman, Thurman was a member of the Men of the Mountain hunting club in Ft. Loudon, PA. Thurman enjoyed the simple things in life and also enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by three children, Susan Brechbill and husband Larry of Waynesboro, Tony Hassler and wife Jocelyn of Hummelstown, and Shawn Hassler and wife Jayna of Chambersburg; two step-daughters, Kim Guessford and husband Tony of Hagerstown, MD, and Jodi Davis and husband John of Frederick, MD; four grandchildren, Annalee Hassler, Matthew Brechbill, Shayla Hassler and Tao Hassler; four step-grandchildren, Bruce Suders, Jamie Karper, Heather Cauffman, and Amy Tobin; and his sister, Bonnie Poe and husband Gene of Chambersburg. In addition to his parents and wife, Thurman was preceded in death by his brother, Ben Hassler.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 8, 2019 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Pastor Jane Nicholson will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chambersburg Lyme Alliance.
