Chambersburg

Timothy David Wilmot, 63, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024. Born October 6, 1961, in Hamilton, NY, he was a son of Annette Hotchkiss Wilmot and the late Robert L. Wilmot.

A United States Marine Corps Veteran, Tim served as an aviator and graduated in the top 1 percent of his Naval flight school class. He retired from the service in 1992 as a Captain. He earned an undergraduate degree from Ithaca College in 1983 and his law degree from the Dickinson School of Law in 1995.

During his law career, Tim was widely respected for his fairness, integrity, and commitment to justice. He served as a divorce hearing master for 23 years in the 39th Judicial District and held roles as a judicial law clerk, Franklin County Prison’s contract attorney for inmate civil claims, and Assistant District Attorney. Tim retired in 2019 but left behind a legacy of professionalism and principled decision-making. In every professional role, he was known for his meticulous adherence to the law and his unwavering commitment to doing what was right, regardless of personal gain.

Beyond his legal career, Tim dedicated himself to his community. He served on the boards of the Salvation Army, N.E.T.W.O.R.K. Ministries, Rhodes Grove Camp, and Piney Mountain Home. He founded the Chambersburg Boys’ Lacrosse Club and was a PIAA wrestling official for 10 years. A lifelong supporter of youth sports, he coached Chambersburg Youth Wrestling, Chambersburg Little League, the Chambersburg Steelers, and Chambersburg High School Lacrosse.

Tim’s deep and abiding faith was central to his life. A member, deacon, and past board president of Salem United Brethren Church, he sought to serve others with humility, kindness, and love. He was a man of unwavering principles, a role model who consistently chose the high road and led by example. His strength of character left an indelible mark on everyone he met.

In addition to his mother, Tim is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jean Wells Wilmot, whom he married on February 23, 1985; three children, Joseph Wilmot of Chambersburg, Steven Wilmot of Waynesboro, and Abigail Wilmot of Richmond, VA; five grandchildren, Wells, Savannah, Jace, Leo and Colton; eight siblings, Marie Sylvester, Dan Wilmot, Kathy Lowmaster, Sarah Malina, and Jon, Tom, Jeremy and Matt Wilmot; and numerous nieces and nephews.
