Tolbert Karns, Jr., age 82, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Wednesday evening, April 1, 2015 at his home. Born June 6, 1932 in Harrisonville, PA, he was a son of the late Tolbert Karns, Sr., and Beatrice Wilson Karns. His beloved wife, Jean McKnight Karns, preceded him in death on June 16, 2006.
Tolbert worked at TB Woods for 20 years then worked as a painter at Letterkenny Army Depot until his retirement in 1995. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sitting out on the porch when the weather was nice, and his family’s fall parties. His great-grandchildren were his whole world; he had so much love for them.
Tolbert is survived by two sons, Michael Karns (Patricia Shughart) of Chambersburg, and Terry Karns (Tina) of Fayetteville; two grandchildren, Mary Kelley (Clayton Lane) of Fayetteville, and Bobbi Kelley (Terry) of Chambersburg; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Phyllis Mellott (Huey) of St. Thomas, and Thelma “Sis” Long of Carlisle. In addition to his parents and wife, Tolbert is preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Karns; and a sister Reba Hammond.
A funeral service to honor Tolbert’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday evening, April 6, 2015 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
