V. Pauline Mentzer Black, 92, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Monday, February 24, 2025 in her home. Born August 5, 1932 in Crystal Spring, PA she was the daughter of the late Marvin J. and Ida (Jay) Barton.
She was a graduate of Southern Fulton High School with the Class of 1950. Pauline was employed as a seamstress for Stanley Company. Following that she was employed as an assistant manager at K-Mart, Chambersburg. She retired after 20 years with the store. Pauline was a member of Crider’s United Brethren Church and the Golden Age Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Darlene K. Peters and her husband Charles of Fayetteville, PA and Cathy A. Thomas and her husband John of Chambersburg, PA; four step-sons; three step-daughters, three grandchildren, Jessica Ann Thomas, Erik Peters, and Jeremy Peters; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Peters, Samantha Thomas and Michael Thomas; a sister, Velma Akers and her husband Gary of Chambersburg; and a number of step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Bob Mentzer; her second husband, Marlin E. “Beanie” Black; a son, Daryl Mentzer; and two brothers, John and Ralph Barton.
Services will be held 1:30 PM Monday, March 3, 2025 in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Pastor Brent Liechty. officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
