Veeraswamy Balachandar

Veeraswamy J. “Jay” Balachandar, age 67, of Fayetteville, died on Thursday, April 21, 2011 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born on December 5, 1943 in Channai, India, he was a son of the late Jayram and Sundramma Rao.

Jay was a veteran of the British Royal Navy, where he developed his career as an engineer. He retired from the National Courts and the U.S. Department of the Interior. He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Chambersburg.

Jay is survived by his wife, Evangeline Gangamma Balachandar; one daughter, Vino Balachandar (and husband, Rumel D’Costa) of Baltimore, MD; sister-in-law Rani Rao of Potomac, MD; and three nephews, Permal Gurwan of Fayetteville, and Jay and Shyam Rao of Potomac. Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 in the chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, with Rev. Andrew Sebastian officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
