Veloris S. “Butch” Dean III, age 40, of Shippensburg, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 in Shippensburg, while swimming with friends. Born on August 21, 1970 in Chambersburg, he was a son of Patricia Evans Hoover (wife of Owen Hoover) of Chambersburg and Veloris Dean II.
A 1988 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School, Butch served his country with the U.S. Navy. He was most recently employed as a welder with Volvo. Aside from his parents he is survived by two sons, Darren Thomas of Carlisle and Andrew James Dean of York; one brother, Jamie Dean (and wife, Michelle), his niece, Fawn Dean, all of Chambersburg; two step-brothers, Michael Hoover of Mont Alto and Allen Hoover of Chambersburg; and one step-sister, Amy Hoover of Waynesboro. Aside from his grandparents he was preceded by his wife, Paula Dean.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 in the chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road Chambersburg, with Rev. David Stahl officiating. The family will welcome friends in the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland Valley Breast Care Alliance, 344 Leedy Way Chambersburg, PA 17201.
