Velva M. “Vi” Bromley, age 101, passed away on Thursday afternoon, June 11, 2015 at Sarah Todd Memorial Home in Carlisle, PA. Born October 1, 1913 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Adam S. and Sally Pearl Jones Landis.
Vi worked as a Payroll Mistress at Letterkenny Army Depot until her retirement in 1982. She was the oldest living member of St. Johns United Church of Christ in Chambersburg. She was also a member of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Ladies Auxiliary, the Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Women of the Moose Chapter 1128, and a member and past president of The BPO Elks 600 Ladies Auxiliary. In her early years, Vi was an athlete and enjoyed sports. She also enjoyed traveling, spending time with her grandchildren and football.
She is survived by six grandchildren, Dana Holstay of Mechanicsburg, Daryl Holstay (wife Tanya) of Dillsburg, Tara Holstay of Etters, Michelle Jones (husband Darrin) of Marion, CPT Ryan Holstay (wife Alyssa) of Boiling Springs, and Vi Welker (husband Mike) of Mechanicsburg; eight great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Vi is preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Holstay; her second husband, Henry “Gin” Bromley; her son, Ralph “Tedd” Holstay; a grandson, Doug Holstay; and five siblings.
A funeral service to honor Vi’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Mark Ruzicka will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
