Vera Lensbower

Vera Grace Lensbower, 93, of Chambersburg, passed away on Monday, September 3, 2018. Born May 2, 1925 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Elsie Dice Fortna. Her beloved husband, Robert Lensbower, precede her in death in 1984.
Vera was employed as a bookkeeper at the Chambersburg Livestock Auction for 30 years, and also as a sales clerk at People’s Drug Store for ten years. She also was a bookkeeper for her husband’s refrigeration business, helped at a catering business for several years and was a bookkeeper for Lyons Clothing earlier in her life. She served as treasurer at the Ft. Loudon Senior Center and for the Chambersburg Mall Walkers. She also served as a volunteer at the former Piney Mountain Nursing Home and Village of Laurel Run for over 30 years, and served on the Franklin County Election Board for 50 years having been inducted to the Poll Workers Hall of Fame in 2014. Vera was an Elder and Deacon at Trinity United Church of Christ in St. Thomas and was a member of the St. Thomas American Legion, the Local Craftsman Guild, the Norland Garden Club and the Blue Mountaineers Camping Club. She was currently a member of Zion Reformed Church of Christ in Chambersburg.
Vera is survived by two sons, Edward Lensbower (wife Deborah) of Chambersburg, and Donald Lensbower (wife Susan) of Chambersburg; two grandchildren, Brian Lensbower (Jessica Mills) of Mercersburg, and Chad Lensbower of Chambersburg; one great grandchild, Alexander Lensbower of NY; and her brother, Lester Fortna (wife Evelyn) of Chambersburg.
A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Friday, September 7, 2018 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Chaplain Adam Leeper and Rev. Jeffrey Diller will officiate. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM on Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
