Victor Augustus Carnes, age 90, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2018 at Quincy Village. Born August 31, 1928 in Pueblo, CO, he was a son of the late Charles Augustus “Gus” Carnes and Gladys Mabel Vail Carnes.
Victor was a 1946 graduate of Central High School in Pueblo, Colorado. Following high school, he joined the US Army Air Corps in April 1947 and served in the Occupation Forces after World War II in Japan and Korea. He was honorably discharged in April of 1950, with the rank of Sargeant. He was a Federal government employee for 37 years, retiring in 1984. Vic enjoyed pursuing the hobbies of horseback riding, horseback packing and camping in the Canadian Rockies. He loved exploring he and his wife Betty’s family genealogies, and has written two books about his findings. He also attended church at Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Waynesboro.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty L. Clark Carnes, whom he married on March 31, 1951; two daughters, Vickie L. Carnes of Mont Alto, PA, and Pamela (husband Tom) Reeder, of Fountain Inn, SC; 4 grandchildren, Chelsea D. Raby (fiancé Mitch) of Virginia, Stacie L. Reeder, of Shippensburg, PA, Christopher P. Reeder (wife Kara) of South Carolina, and Zachary P. Reeder (wife Penny) of Carlisle, PA.; and 18 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert, William, Vonna Jean, and Gladys Gayle; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service in Vic’s honor will be held at 1:00 PM,on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 S Church St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Pastors Dennis Beaver and Drahus Oslik will officiate.
