Violet P. Cowan, 83, of Chambersburg and formerly of Fannettsburg, PA died Monday, August 26, 2013 in the Chambersburg Hospital surrounded by her family. Violet had been in declining health. Born June 6, 1930 in Hustontown, Fulton County, PA; she was the daughter of the late Albert F. and Hulda E. Naugle Price. She was married on September 2, 1950 to the Wesley Eugene “Gene” Cowan who preceded her in death on January 6, 2012.
Violet was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot System Command retiring in 1996. She was previously employed by Howard Johnsons on the turnpike. During her retirement she enjoyed working part time at Stoner’s Family Restaurant where she made many friends. Violet lived at Menno Haven and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, travelling, eating out, and especially shopping. She loved her grandchildren and great grand children and went out of her way to make a difference in their lives.
She is survived by her loving son Richard E. Cowan and wife Wendy of Chambersburg; three grandchildren, Amy L. Brown and husband Christopher, Carrie L. Cowan and fiancé Jason Strite, and Richaela H. Cowan; three great - grandchildren, Taylor and Ian Brown, and Hannah Cowan; one brother Robert L. Price and his wife Kay of Fannettsburg, 6 nephews, 3 nieces as well as a number of great - nieces and great - nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was proceeded in death by her great - grandson, Kirkland T. Cowan, who died on the same day in August 1998, and three sisters, Helen Keenan, Mary Burkholder, and Beulah Stine, two infant brothers and one nephew, Edward L. Price.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 11 AM at the Agett-Geisel Funeral Home, 18875 Main Street, Dry Run, PA; where Chaplain Bob Keener and Rev. Marlin A. “Butch” Neil will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 from 6 – 8 PM in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA and on Thursday, August 29, 2013 one hour prior to the service in Dry Run, PA at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Upper Path Valley Cemetery.
