Virgil Lehman

Virgil T. Lehman, 86, of Fayetteville, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 17, 2012 at his home, while surrounded by his family. Born on February 6, 1926, in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Jacob E. and Salome Ebersole Lehman.

Virgil retired in 1991 from Hess Manufacturing. During retirement he delivered eggs for Hillside Poultry to restaurants throughout Franklin County for many years. He was a member of Pond Bank Mennonite Church for many years. While some of Virgil’s interests included bird-watching, reading, gardening, and Gaither videos, his family was his life. His most cherished times were those spent with his children and grandchildren.

Virgil is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Esther Shank Lehman, whom he married on May 14, 1950; five children, Daryl R. Lehman (and wife, Rhoda) of Waynesboro, Sondra K. Funk (and husband, Ken) of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Audrey J. Swartzentruber (and husband, Dan) of Fayetteville, Joyce E. Kalous (and husband, Paul) of Cincinnati, OH, and Edwin J. Lehman (and wife, Natalie) of Chambersburg; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and 1 great great granddaughter. The last member of his immediate family, Virgil was preceded in death by 12 siblings and a granddaughter, Martie Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the Pond Bank Mennonite Church, 6555 Duffield Rd. Chambersburg (17202), with Pastor Marlin E. Ebersole and Pastor Jeremy D. Lehman officiating. Interment will follow in the Marion Mennonite Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Monday at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, and also one hour prior to the service in the church on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pond Bank Mennonite Church at the above address. The family would like to thank the Chambersburg Hospital 5 North staff and Lutheran Home Care and Hospice for their tender care and support.
