Virginia E. Forbes, 70, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Chambersburg Hospital. Born December 24, 1946 in Fayetteville, she was a daughter of the late James V. and Mary Catherine Shetter Shaffer. Virginia was a 1964 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School and was employed for several years as a clerk in the lab at Chambersburg Hospital. She was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot, retiring after thirty-three years of service. She then worked for a number of years as an aide in the cafeteria at CAMS South. Virginia was raised Catholic and later attended King Street United Brethren Church. She was a life member of VFW Post 1599 Ladies Auxiliary in Chambersburg and enjoyed working outside, playing Bingo, and attending local summer festivals.
She is survived by two children, Troy A. Parson at home and Diane Geyer and husband Anthony of Chambersburg; three grandchildren, Hailey, Taylor, and Brady; her brother, Dennis Shaffer, Sr. and wife Vickie of Orrstown; two sisters, Karen Hissong of Shippensburg and Nancy Gabler and husband Glenn, Sr. of Chambersburg; three step-sons and a number of step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, all in Alabama and Tennessee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter D. Parson on November 10, 1970; her second husband, R. Gregory Forbes on July 17, 2001; her daughter, Lisa Parson; a brother, Bernard Shaffer; and a sister, Cynthia Huss.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Monday, March 27, 2017 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday and from 10:30-11:30 AM Monday at the funeral home.
