Vonda Darlene (Yeager) Scott Kelso, 84, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Saturday, November 30, 2024 in the WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital surrounded by her three children. Born March 23, 1940 in Hagerstown, MD she was the daughter of the late Earl D. and Anna E. (Horst) Yeager.
She was a graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School with the Class of 1958. Darlene then started her undergraduate degree at Eastern Mennonite University and then transferred to Juniata College graduating with her bachelor’s degree in education. She obtained her master’s degree in counseling from Shippensburg University. Darlene began her teaching career at East Junior High School, Waynesboro and continued teaching at Central Junior High School, Chambersburg and Franklin County VoTech. She was also employed with Penn State Cooperative Extension Office. Darlene was a well-known Avon Unit Leader for nearly 40 years in the Chambersburg area.
She was a member of Fourth Street Church of the Brethren and also attended Chambersburg and Pleasant View Mennonite Churches. Darlene loved crafts of all kinds and owned and operated Farm House Craft Shoppe for many years. She was active with Chambersburg Senior Center and was a bell-ringer for the Salvation Army for the last 15 years at Sunny Way Foods.
She is survived by three children, Sean Scott (Larry) of Chambersburg, Kathleen Sites (Dennis)of Fairfield, PA, and Christopher Scott (Heather) of Winchester, VA; four grandchildren, Jordan, Hannah (Kyle), Ruth and Esther; two great-grandchildren, BriElla and Hudson; four siblings, Barbara Cooper (Guy) of Homedale, ID, Richard Yeager (Mary Ellen) of Carlisle, PA, Judith Martin (Richard) of Trussville, AL, and Sharon Ezelle of Chambersburg; a sister-in-law, Donna Yeager of Fannettsburg, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Joe E. Kelso, Sr. and two brothers, Enos and Robert Yeager.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, December 6, 2024 in Chambersburg Church of the Brethren, 260 S 4th St, Chambersburg, PA 17201 with Pastor Liz Thorpe officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Friday morning in the church. There will be a time of fellowship following the service in the church. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Chambersburg Mennonite Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg.
