Vonnie L. "Jenny" Ashway, 80, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2021 at ManorCare Health Services in Chambersburg. Born October 13, 1940 in Waynesboro, she was a daughter of the late Oscar O. and Katherine Miller Monn. On January 19, 1957 at the Greenwood Gospel Tabernacle (now known as Greenwood Assembly of God) she married her loving and devoted husband, Vernon L. Ashway, Sr. who preceded her in death on March 29, 2021. Jenny was a loving wife and devoted mother.
She was a homemaker most of her life. Jenny was a former member of Calvary Assembly of God in Waynesboro where she assisted her husband in starting the Tape Ministry and running the sound board for weddings, funerals, and Wednesday night services when her husband way working. She taught the primary Sunday school class and was known as a devoted prayer warrior and served as an interpreter for the church.
She is survived by four children, Kathy Fike (Gary), Denton Ashway (Michelle), Vernon Ashway, Jr. (Stacey), and Robert Ashway (Lori), all of Waynesboro; three grandchildren, Susan Elliott (Brendan), Scott Ashway (Kelli), and Taryn McFarland (Travis); a sister, Carolyn Miller (Jay) of Mt. Joy; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grand-daughter, Kaelyn Ashway.
A Celebration of Jenny's life will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, September 10, 2021 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersbug, PA with Pastor Dwan Newsome officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30 AM Friday at the funeral home.
