Vonnie Arlene Hamil, 77, of Amberson, PA, passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at her home. Born December 15, 1940, in Amberson, she was the daughter of the late Alton Conrad and Orpha Mae Culbertson Piper.
A 1958 graduate of Fannett-Metal High School, Vonnie worked as a hair dresser most of her life. She was a member of Amberson United Methodist Church and served as President of the Amberson Community Center. A talented musician, Vonnie enjoyed playing the piano and organ and loved travelling to sing with her music group, Mike Scott and the Gospel Jammers. She was a gifted artist and enjoyed painting canvases, ceramics, knitting and crocheting.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, R. Curtis Hamil, whom she married on May 12, 1985; 5 children, Sonya Mae Jones of Upper Strasburg, Edsel Burdge, Jr. (wife Jennifer) of Shippensburg, Audrey R. Sherman (husband Jim) of Amberson, Sherry Hamil of Chambersburg, and Danita McGowan (husband Todd) of Dry Run; 14 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and son-in-law Tony McLaughlin. In addition to her parents, Vonnie was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Ralph Piper and Ellis Alton Piper; and a daughter, Carmen Hamil McLaughlin.
Graveside services will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to Agett-Geisel Funeral Home, Dry Run, PA.
