Walter Glenn Gartside, age 89, of Chambersburg, passed away on Wednesday evening, February 4, 2015 at Menno Haven. Born September 20, 1925, he was a son of the late Walter S. and Sylvia Cupfender Gartside.
Glenn was a 1943 graduate of Chambersburg High School. A US Army Air Corps veteran, Walter served honorably during World War II. He then attended Chambersburg School of Business and graduated in 1950. Glenn was a member of Chambersburg Bible Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joyce Hepfer Gartside, whom he married in 1945; two sons, Barry L. Gartside and wife Paula of Lebanon, PA; and Thomas G. Gartside and wife Julia of FL; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
A funeral service to honor Glenn’s life will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, February 9, 2015 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Gary Yoder will officiate. Interment in Pleasant Hall Cemetery will follow the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
