Walter Heeger

Walter Frank Heeger, loving husband and wonderful father, passed away on January 1, 2019, at the age of 83. Born January 25, 1935, in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Walter K. and Barbara Doerfler Heeger.

Walter attended Farmingdale College in Long Island, New York, earning his associate’s degree. He then worked for the County of Nassau in the engineering department for 37 years, retiring in 1992. A US Army reserves veteran, Walter served honorably until his discharge in 1963. In his free time, he enjoyed being outdoors; taking walks, hiking, hunting, and fishing. He also loved traveling and was a history buff.

Walter is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret “Peggy” Heeger; his children, Stephen Heeger and wife Kathy, of Avon, IN, Laura Raham and husband Christopher, of Scotch Plains, NJ, and Walter J. Heeger and wife Jessica, of Needham, MA; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; son in law, John Buzanga, of Bellmore, NY; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Colleen Buzanga, and brother Charles Heeger.

A Memorial Mass will be offered on January 11, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA, where the Rev. Fr. Richard Lyons will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association: Greater Pennsylvania Chapter, 2595 Interstate Dr. Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110, or to the American Heart Association, 4250 Crums Mill Rd., Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
