Walter "Paul" McNew

Walter “Paul” McNew, Jr., age 50, of Chambersburg, passed away at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer, on Wednesday, June 3, 2020. Born July 7, 1969 in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of Deborah (Barnhart) Atherton and the late Walter P. McNew, Sr.

A 1987 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School, Paul worked as a manager at the Orchards Restaurant in Chambersburg for 26 years. A man of great faith, he was a member of the Brownsville Church of God in Fayetteville. Paul will always be known for his contagious smile and as an animal lover, especially of dogs, and he spent time volunteering and fundraising for local animal rescues, particularly the Knick Knack Pittie Pack. He will be fondly remembered for being selfless, compassionate, friendly, and caring. He loved spending time with his family and playing jokes on them.

In addition to his mother, Paul is survived by his siblings, Danielle Henry (Joseph, Jr.), of Fayetteville, Brian McNew (Michelle), of Fayetteville; his nieces and nephews, Brett and Cassandra McNew and Joseph Henry III; his great nephew and niece Grantley and Makenzie Henry; and his half-brothers, Adam McNew of Chambersburg, and Benjamin McNew of Greencastle. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his step-father Marvin Atherton.

Services at this time will be private but the family plans to have a memorial service for Paul in the future. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in Paul’s name to either the Brownsville Church of God, 6390 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville, PA 17222 or to the Knick Knack Pittie Pack, 9 Reynolds Ave., Mont Alto, PA 17237.
