Warren Byers

Warren K. Byers, age 97, of Fayetteville, PA, died Friday, September 21, 2012 at The Village of Laurel Run. Born January 2, 1915 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late John W. and Theressa Miller Byers. Warren was a member of Coldspring United Brethren Church, and a life member of the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Company. After attending a one-room school for a year, he went to Browns Mill Consolidated School. In 1933, he graduated from Chambersburg High School and went on to attend Chambersburg Business College. In 1936 he was employed by Chambersburg Stone Company. After several years he became superintendent. The company later changed hands and was called Valley Transit Mix, a division of Valley Quarries, Inc. Warren retired form Valley Quarries, Inc. in 1986. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed metal detecting for Civil War artifacts, and traveling. His wife, Ethel M. Brookens Byers, whom he married November 28, 1940, preceded him in death on August 10, 2011.

He is survived by one son, W. James Byers and wife Francoise of Winchester, VA; two grandchildren, Amy Michelle Myers, and husband Bruce, and James Scott Byers and wife Kim; and five great-grandsons. In addition to his parents and wife, Warren is preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn J. Byers; one great grandson, Justin Myers; two brothers, Leslie Byers, and McClellan Byers; and one sister, Dorothy Brechbill.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Burt Lange will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial contributions may be made in Warren’s name to Coldspring Church, 1051 Brookens Road, Fayetteville, PA 17222.
