Warren D. “Woody” Hammond, age 73, of St. Thomas, PA; passed away on Monday, September 19, 2011 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born September 7, 1938 in Dry Run, PA; he was the son of the late Lester and Nettie T. Doyle Hammond.
A heavy equipment operator, Woody worked for Charles E. Brake, Inc. until his retirement in 1997. He was a life member of the Chambersburg Club. An avid outdoorsman, Woody especially enjoyed hunting and being outdoors; among his other interests were toy trains, reading, and collecting cars.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 54 years, Phyllis M. Hammond whom he married on July 6, 1957; his children, Robin S. Wingert of Greencastle, PA, Timothy W. Hammond (Barbara) of St. Thomas, PA, and Patricia A. MacDonald (Ray) of St. Thomas, PA; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and five siblings, Virginia Beidel of Willow hill, PA, Clair Hammond of Shippensburg, PA, Lester Hammond, Jr. of Duncannon, PA, Mary K. Lawrence of Chambersburg, PA, and Brenda A. Fleming of Chambersburg, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Hammond.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 23, 2011 at 11:30 AM at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Rev. Marlin A. ‘Butch” Neil will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 22, 2011 from 7-9 PM and on Friday one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, National Headquarters, Donations, 6520 North Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309-2130.
