Wayne M. Sipes, 88, of Chambersburg, passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born March 27, 1933 in McConnellsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Scott and Beatrice Divens Sipes.
Wayne was a 1951 graduate of McConnellsburg High School. A US Army veteran, he served honorably during the Korean War. Wayne was employed as a quality control supervisor in electronics at Letterkenny Army Depot until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post 46 and VFW Post 1599, both in Chambersburg. Wayne attended Mercersburg First Church of God. He enjoyed playing baseball, coaching his kid’s little league teams, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed raising and training beagles to hunt.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma Kendall Sipes, whom he married on June 30, 2007; four children, Nina “Kay” Pine (husband Carl) of Greencastle, Bruce Sipes (wife Rena) of McConnellsburg; Stuart Sipes (wife Tracy) of Chambersburg, and Cindy Scanzello (husband Mark) of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren, Heather Gift (husband Phil) of Harmony, NC, Amy Mellott (husband Jeff) of Warfordsburg, Melissa Suders (husband Morris) of McConnellsburg, Nathan Sipes (wife Eleanor) of Everett, Michael Johnson (wife Katherine) of North Springfield, VA, and Charles Scanzello (wife Abbigail) of Harrisburg; eight great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and two step-children, Teresa Deeds and Debbie Sword. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his previous wife, Phyllis Jean Sipes; his son, Brett Sipes; three brothers, Bruce, Harold and Daryl Sipes; and three sisters, Dorothy, Marion and Betsy.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Glenn Peck will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. Condolences may be offered on his Book of Memories page at geiselfuneralhome.com.
