William “Bill” B. Gartner, 81, of Chambersburg, PA, went to be with the Lord Wednesday afternoon, February 13, 2013 at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born October 2, 1931 in Newark, NJ, he was the son of the late John J. and Freida E. Hauser Gartner. Bill was a graduate of St. Benedict High School in Newark, NJ and went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree from Georgia Tech. He served in the New Jersey Air National Guard and was called to active duty with the US Air Force during the Korean War. An Engineer, he retired from Grove Worldwide and was previously employed by The Boeing Company in Seattle and Philadelphia. Bill was an avid reader and his hobbies included woodworking, organic gardening, music, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Terwilliger Gartner, whom he married June 8, 1957; six children, Joseph H. Gartner and wife Jacqueline of Lititz, PA, Elizabeth A. Gartner of Chambersburg, PA, Michael R. Gartner and wife Quenby of Austin, TX, Kathryn M. Gartner of Bellevue, WA, Robert T. Gartner of San Antonio, TX, and Christine R. Dwivedi and husband Raj of Greenbelt, MD; as well as seven grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Doris (wife of the late Edward) Berube of New Jersey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Perrucci.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 23, 2013 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Chaplain Vernon Isner officiating. Private interment will be at Stenger Hill Cemetery, Ft. Loudon, PA. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
