William R. “Bill” Geist, 81, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Sunday evening, April 19, 2015 at his home. Born January 20, 1934 in Williamstown, PA, he was a son of the late William C. and Mary E. Haller Geist. Bill was a graduate of the Williamstown High School and served honorably in the US Navy during the Korean War. He attended Wyomissing College and was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot, retiring in 1989 as Quality Control Inspector. He was a member of King Street United Brethren Church and a former long-time member of St. Luke Lutheran Church. Bill held membership in George Washington Lodge #143 F&AM, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Valley Forest #145, Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion, and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #842. He served as a Boy Scout Leader with Troop 244 in Scotland. An avid outdoorsman, he liked fishing, hunting, boating, and camping. He loved to travel and enjoyed attending auctions and flea markets. He especially liked attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Bill is survived by his wife, Betty Thierwechter Geist, whom he married April 22, 1956; three children, Barry Geist and wife Virginia of Scotland, Randy Geist and wife Bonnie of Upper Strasburg, and Lori Hammond and husband Mark of Chambersburg; and five grandchildren, Anne Goshorn, Jennifer Peters and husband Kip, Heather Geist, Ian Hammond, Aubrey Hammond, and Garett Hammond; and four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Kaiya, Khloe, and Brylee Peters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister; two sons; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, April 24, 2015 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Lester F. Stine officiating. Interment will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
