William “Bill” Russell Hymes, J.D., age 86, of Fayetteville, PA passed away on Tuesday morning, April 16, 2013. Born March 22, 1927 in Racine, WV, he was the son of the late James and Nannie Matthews Hymes. A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Hymes served honorably during WWII. Mr. Hymes was a member of the VFW, Lions Club International, Shriner’s, and the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Hymes was a graduate of the University of Baltimore; where he earned his Juris Doctorate degree in 1960. He practiced as an attorney in private practice and continued his career as the State’s Attorney in Howard County, MD for 16 years until his retirement. Bill enjoyed golf, painting, and bowling.
Surviving is his loving wife of 59 years, Dorothy Smith Hymes, whom he married on June 27, 1953; three daughters, Suzanne Ader (husband Gerard) of Eldersburg, MD; Colleen Frazier (husband Eddie) of Gainesville, VA; and Janette Reda (husband Bob) of Elkridge, MD; six grandchildren Daniel Ader, Robert Reda Jr., Jason Ader, Jessica (Reda) Sebastian, Joshua Frazier, and Justin Frazier and one great granddaughter, Sophia Reda.
A private memorial service for the family will be held in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Garry Culler will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bill’s name to the Salvation Army, 159 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
