William E. “Bill” Johnson, 86, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2022 in ProMedica Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg. Born November 21, 1935 in Spring Run, PA he was the son of the late Meryl and Thelma (Snider) Johnson.
He served in the United States Army during Vietnam and with the Army Reserves for 25 years. Bill was employed in his early years for Glen Bittner Mobile Homes. He was then employed for the majority of his life as a heavy truck mechanic for Roadway Express in both Camp Hill, PA and Hagerstown, MD. He retired in 1992 after many years with the company. Bill was a life member of the Amvets Post 224 and the American Legion Post 46 both in Chambersburg. He was an avid hunter.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rose G. (Adams) Johnson; a son, William E. “Billy” Johnson and his wife Joyce of Mercersburg, PA; two grandchildren, Jonathan Benedict and Ashley Johnson; five great-grandchildren; six siblings, Wayne, Alma, Avis, Kay, Fay and Diane. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by six-siblings.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.
