William R. “Bill” Logsdon, III, age 64, of Chambersburg, passed away on Thursday evening, August 7, 2014 at his home. Born May 22, 1950, he was the son of Elisabeth Resch and the late William R. Logsdon, Jr.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Bill served honorably in Vietnam. He was very proud of his service in the Marine Corps and was the current Commandant of the Landis-McCleaf Detachment, Marine Corps League in Chambersburg. Bill also served as the president of the Trojan Gridiron Club for 11 years and coached many basketball and softball teams. He very much enjoyed his time playing semi-pro football for the Chambersburg Cardinals and the Franklin County Minutemen in the early to mid 1980’s. He loved spending time with his family and doing everything possible to make them happy. Bill worked as a welder at Letterkenny Army Depot until his retirement in 1998 after 28 years of service. He most recently worked as a shop coordinator for P.D. Systems.
In addition to his mother, Bill is survived by his wife of 33 years, Martha “Sue” Mathis Logsdon whom he married on January 3, 1981: five children, Angela Graves of Chambersburg, William R. Logsdon, IV and wife Jackie of Chambersburg, Tara Hatfield of Chambersburg, Frank Logsdon and wife Jenny of Severna Park, MD, and Michael Logsdon and wife Samantha of Mercersburg; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Trudy Pfisterer and husband Chip of Hernando, MS; four nephews; and two nieces.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Monday, August 18, 2014 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Military Honors will be provided by members of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
