William Myers

William L. Myers, 95, of Shippensburg, PA and formerly of Brechbill Road in Chambersburg, passed away Monday morning, February 29, 2016 at the Shippensburg Health Care Center. Born May 10, 1920 in Shippensburg, he was the son of the late W. Ray and Jane Coleman Myers. Mr. Myers was a 1937 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School and was a decorated US Army veteran, serving with the infantry in WWII. He retired from the HJ Heinz Company in Chambersburg where he had worked for many years. Mr. Myers was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion, Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, CV Antique Engine and Machinery Associating, the Friendly Coin Club, and AARP. He was an avid coin collector and enjoyed hunting and fishing. His wife, Annabelle Gaston Myers, whom he married September 9, 1939, preceded him in death on December 3, 2007.

He is survived by his daughter, Peggy Heck and husband Larry of Fayetteville; son-in-law Ralph “Jim” Johnston of Chambersburg; three grandsons, Barry R. Johnston, Michael S. Heck, and Brad W. Heck; four great-grandchildren, Breanne, Fisher, Madelyn, and Lillian Heck; and his companion, Laura Jumper of Shippensburg. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Johnston on March 2, 2015.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, March 4, 2016 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Paul B. Baker and Rev. Lester F. Stine will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
