William Paine

William J. “Bill” Paine, age 90, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2014 at the Falling Spring Nursing and Rehab Center. Born in Harrisburg, PA on October 9, 1923, he was the son of the late William W. and Maude Tyson Paine.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Paine served honorably during WWII, prior to his service, Bill worked for the Western Maryland Rail Road and then again after completion of his commitment to the Navy until 1953. He worked most of his career for Horn’s Motor Express as a truck driver, retiring after 28 years in 1980. Bill was a life member of the Friendship Fire Company, he was also cub scout master for Pack 124 for a number of years, and a charter member of the Shippen Squares, and a member of the Whorlybirds, and the Penn Dixies, all square dancing clubs. He attended New Franklin Assembly of God Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post 46 in Chambersburg until he became ill in 2012. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, hunting, fishing, crafts, woodworking, traveling, and playing cards. In addition to his family, he will be greatly missed by his cherished dog, Mollie. .
Surviving is his wife of 27 years, Joanne I. Paine, whom he married on January 9, 1987; seven children, Gary D. of Richmond, VA, Richard L. (wife Bertie) of Chambersburg, PA, Thomas A. (wife Dar) of Chambersburg, PA, R. Scott (wife Annette) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Charles W. Paine (wife Barb) of Pittsburgh, PA, Karen L. Wauls (husband John) of Chambersburg, PA, Debra A. Naugle (husband Vincent) of South Mountain, PA; four step-children, William E. (wife Gina) of Melbourne, FL, R. Jay (wife Vickie) of Lancaster, PA, Jeffrey L. (wife Luann) of Fayetteville, PA, and Mark A. Summers (wife Billie Jo) of Nashville, GA; twenty-one grandchildren, and eighteen great- grandchildren, one great great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Erma E. Paine in 1986, a step-daughter, C. Dianne Poe, and two sisters, Nora Rosenberry and June Coover
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 11:30 AM; in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Pastor William Dick will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 6 – 8 PM and one hour prior to the service on Friday in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, where military honors will be provided by members of the Charles Nitterhouse, VFW Post 1599, Honor Guard. If desired contributions may be made in his name to the New Franklin Assembly of God Church, 2355 New Franklin Rd., Chambersburg, PA 17202 or the United Way of Franklin County, 182 S. Second St., Chambersburg, PA 17201 or the charity of one’s choice.
