William S. “Bill” Ritchey, 66, of Chambersburg, died on Thursday, July 10, 2014, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on March 1, 1948 in St. Thomas, PA, he was the son of the late Samuel W. and Mabel Christman Ritchey. Many remember Bill as the owner/operator of Ritchey’s Exxon. Over the years, he was also employed by C. Earl Brown, Karper’s Trucking and Dave’s Truck Repair, retiring in 2012.
Bill was a member of the last graduating class of the former St. Thomas High School in 1966. He served as a trustee of St. Thomas Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a long time member of Hume McNeal Byers AMVETS Post 224, Chambersburg. Bill was an avid car enthusiast and on weekends would go “cruisin’” at various car shows with his many friends. He loved model railroading and had a vast collection. Bill also enjoyed playing his guitars and singing with his wife, Nancy having a particular affection for bluegrass music.
Bill is survived by his wife Nancy (Strock) Ritchey, whom he married on June 29, 1979; two daughters Lynette “Lynn”Osler and Renee Ritchey, both of Chambersburg; 1 son Daniel Ritchey and wife Holly; six grandchildren, Brandon and Jessica Drumm, Jamie and Heather Shoenberger, Carolina Ritchey and Nathan Price; and two sisters, Darlene Burkholder and husband Lee, and Norma Bollinger. Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia “Patty” Martin and a sister, Betty (Andrews) Brindle.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 11:30 AM in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Harold Yeager will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday, July 14 and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Friends are encouraged to attend in their show cars.
