William Smith

William R. Smith, age 81, of Fayetteville, PA, died on Saturday, August 27, 2011 in Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, PA. Born on May 3, 1930 in Johnstown, PA, he was the son of the late Robert David and Ellen Lucetta Rupe Smith. A veteran of the U.S. Army, William participated all over the world on the Army track team. He was a vocational teacher and administrator in Prince George’s County, Maryland schools most of his life but his passion was coaching track.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Heinze Smith, whom he married on August 14, 1954; two daughters, Janis Smith Martin and husband, Stephen of Rockville, MD and Lee Ann Smith Martin and husband, Gary Sr. of Haymarket, VA; his son; Scott K. and wife, Patricia Leedy Smith of Münich, Germany; six grandchildren, Jennifer and Nicholas Martin, Gary Jr. and Natalie Martin, and Madeleine and Graham Smith; one sister, Nancy Kolostyak and husband, Donald; a brother-in-law, Bill Boltz; many nieces and nephews; and his dear friend Robert Harrell. Aside from his parents, William is preceded in death by his sister, Helen Boltz.
Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Interment at Grandview Cemetery in Johnstown, PA will be held at a later date.
