William “Bill” Spencer, Jr., 82, of Chambersburg, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Menno Haven. Born October 23, 1935 in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, he was the son of William H. Spencer and Ida Morris Spencer.
Bill was a 1954 graduate of Natrona Heights High School near Pittsburgh, PA. A US Air Force veteran, he served honorably during both the Korean Conflict and Vietnam era. He was employed as an electronics technician at Letterkenny Army Depot for 25 years until his retirement. Bill enjoyed writing and composed a book entitled, “The Best of Life, Love, & Levity”. He also enjoyed music and played the guitar. A handyman, he liked working on his home and doing things on his own. Bill loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen Marie Maliszewski Spencer, whom he married on February 16, 1959; three children, Steven E. Spencer and wife Jody of Chambersburg, Debra Spencer of Chambersburg, and David W. Spencer and wife Linda of Brussels, Belgium; four grandchildren, Joshua Spencer and wife Emily, Heather Lipinski and husband Mark, and Andrew and Andrea Spencer; and five great grandchildren, Madison and Reese Spencer and Sydnee, M.J., and Jaxon Lipinski. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two siblings, Pearl Gustafson and Frederick Spencer; and a grandson, Daniel A. Hammond.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
