William M. “Bill” Thompson, 73, of Chambersburg, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2022 at his home. Born, February 22, 1949 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Walter and Isabell Martin Thompson.
Bill was a 1967 graduate of CASHS. A US Army veteran, he served honorably during the Vietnam War. Following his service in the army, Bill graduated from Florida Atlantic University earning a Bachelor’s degree in communications. He was employed as a radio announcer and disc jockey at WCBG. He was later employed as a correctional officer at Franklin County Prison and as a security officer at the Chambersburg Hospital until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Sharon Friese Thompson, whom he married on May 9, 1998; three brother’s-in-law, Carl Friese, Jr. (Mary Grace), Daniel Friese, and William Friese (Shirley); and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his great aunt, Mary Thomson; an aunt, Betty Haines; and a cousin, Jody Hann, all whom he was especially close to.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 29, 2022 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Ronald Cook and Rev. Lester Stine will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends, one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
