Wilma Mickey

Wilma Bingham Shatzer Mickey, of Chambersburg, PA, died Sunday morning, February 12, 2012 at her home. Born March 4, 1936 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Edison and Martha Dixon Shatzer. Wilma attended South Hamilton Elementary School and graduated in 1954 from the former Chambersburg High School. She married her husband, Jack Mickey, on April 6, 1958 at the St. Thomas United Brethren Church. Wilma was a partner with her husband Jack and son Dwight in their family business, Shatzer Fruit Market, Chambersburg. She was a member of St. Thomas United Methodist Church, Franklin County Daughters of the American Revolution, Gettysburg Chapter of the Daughters of the Colonists, the Mercersburg Historical Society, the Fulton County Historical Society, the Franklin County Historical Society, and was an active member of the Franklin County Horticultural Society where she was currently serving as Assistant Secretary and Treasurer. She was designated a Master Farmer in 1997. Wilma had a passion for researching history and was a local history author.

In addition to her husband, Jack, and her son, Dwight, she is survived by her beloved dog, Daisy.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 18, 2012 at St. Thomas United Methodist Church, 360 St. Thomas-Edenville Road, St. Thomas, PA with Pastor Steve Portner, Rev. Floyd Myers, and Rev. Garnet Myers officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service. Private interment will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County Library System, 101 Ragged Edge Road South, Chambersburg, PA 17202, or the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 2325 Country Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
