Wilton J. “Bill” Moats, age 88, of Mont Alto, PA, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at Laurel Lakes Rehabilitation Center. Born May 2, 1933, in Hancock, MD, he was the son of the late Walter and Nona Younker Moats.
Mr. Moats was a 1952 graduate of the Hancock High School. He worked as a welder for many years, retiring in 1998. His career spanned working at the former Grove Worldwide, Letterkenny Army Depot, and lastly for D.L. Martin. He enjoyed woodworking and visiting with family, friends, and neighbors.
Surviving are four daughters, Stacy Rowe (husband Bradley) of Shippensburg, PA; Heather Mong (husband Travis) of Waynesboro, PA; Dorita D. Davis; and Debra Lawyer; a son, George R. “Rusty” Moats; numerous grandchildren to include, Cody E. Bakner, Joshua Rowe, and Allison Rowe; and six siblings, Charlotte Younker, of Mercersburg, PA, Eva Wileman, of Chambersburg, PA, Molly Shaw, of Warfordsburg, PA, LaFay Mueller, of Boonsboro, MD, Darlene Yonker, of Nichols, SC, and Ennis Moats, of Chambersburg, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shelva J. Meyers Moats in 2018 and a brother, Fred Moats.
A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at 7 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Pastors Jim Bolich and Collin Raab will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be private in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
