Yolanda Elizabeth Stabe Heiss, 92, of Fayetteville, PA and formerly of Big Canoe, GA, passed away on July 15, 2017. Born July 2, 1925 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles Wilhelm and Lillian Stilley Stabe.
Yolanda was a 1943 graduate of Western High School in Baltimore and a Victory Volunteer. She and her husband Walter met on February 15, 1943, when she came to work at the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, where Walter was working as a mail clerk. For Walter, it was love at first sight, but Yolanda told him he was too young for her. However, by May 1, 1943, they were going steady. They were married on December 15, 1946 after Walter was discharged from the Marine Corps. Their son, John Stabe Heiss, was born October 29, 1949. He preceded her in death in 1985 after a battle with cancer.
Yolanda and Walter lived most of their lives together in Big Canoe, GA; an 8,000 acre community in the North Georgia mountains. While Walter worked for the US Forest Service, Yolanda owned and operated an arts and crafts business known as Corner Cupboard Crafts. She was a very talented artist and teacher of art. Yolanda was an active member of her community. She loved animals and was an officer in the Big Canoe Animal Rescue. She also enjoyed golf as a pleasure sport.
“If there is a God, and I believe there is, I give thanks to him for sending Yolanda into my life to be my best friend and the love of my life for 74 wonderful years.”
Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
