Dr. Yvonne D. Taylor, 68, of Chambersburg went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 23, 2022. Dr. Taylor was born to the late Henry and Alice Davis on August 1, 1953 in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Bonnie, as she was affectionately called, was the ninth child of eleven children born to the late Henry and Alice Davis. Dr. Taylor was also preceded in death by her sister Rosa Howe and two brothers Henry and Raymond Davis.
Dr. Yvonne Taylor was educated and graduated from the Philadelphia Public School System. She entered Lincoln University in Pennsylvania and later transferred to Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania, where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Bonnie finalized her education with a Doctorate Degree in Education from Nova Southeastern University in Miami, Florida.
When Bonnie moved to Shippensburg, she had no idea that she would meet and marry the love of her life, Lee Vester Taylor Sr., of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Dr. Taylor was an excellent and highly respected elementary school teacher. She taught 2nd grade for 16 years at Scotland School for Veterans Children in Pennsylvania. She was known for her Black History programs and incorporating music in her classroom.
After a full career at Scotland School, she was asked to join the faculty as a Professor of Education at Shippensburg University, where she later retired. Bonnie accepted Jesus Christ into her life at an early age. She was a member of the Second Pilgrim Baptist Church in Philadelphia. Bonnie served on the Usher Board and sang on 2 choirs (Rose Buds and The Big Bad Sanctuary Choir).
Bonnie continued to serve the Lord until she transitioned to sing in the heavenly choir.
She was a faithful member of the Unity in Christ Church, Chambersburg under the
leadership of Pastor Dr. Lois Waters, here she served on the Missionary Board, sang in the choir, and developed and taught Jacob's Ladder for the youth in the church.
Bonnie loved to cook and enjoyed watching you eat her food, a good debate, ice skating, basketball, and music.
Dr. Taylor was given the opportunity, along with her friend Gladys Leon, to develop and lead the KSUR program. This program brought education majors to an elementary school to assist students with their challenges and help future teachers gain educational experience.
Dr. Yvonne Taylor (Bonnie) leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 46 years,
Lee Vester Taylor Sr.; two sons Lee Vester Taylor Jr. (Heidi) of Chambersburg and
